Joshua Mellberg was born in Tucson, a third generation Arizonan. Here, Josh learned the value of a dollar the old-fashioned way – through hard work and integrity. Josh established his work ethic in high school when he managed his own lawn-care business. He proved he had business savvy while still in college. At Western Michigan University, he ran an online collectibles business and had four construction crews building lofts in college dorm rooms. After graduating with his degree in Business Management, Josh found himself looking for employment in a tough economy.
Some 140 applications and 12 interviews later, Josh accepted a position with a trust company. He drove an average of 1,400 miles a week servicing 800 trust accounts. Then he came home each night and slept on his sister’s couch. It wasn’t long before Josh realized that not every client who bought a trust actually needed one.
That realization led him to join an insurance company as a captive agent. In his first year there, he sold over $4 million in annuities. As Josh gained experience at that company, he again found himself not satisfied with the products and service offered to his clients. He felt his clients deserved a broader choice of financial products, something he could achieve by going into business for himself.
